The Manitoba Chapter of the Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) is pleased to announce Jason Syvixay, Managing Director of the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ, as the recipient of the 2014 Manitoba Communicator of the Year Award (MCOY).

Please join us to celebrate Jason and his achievements and find out what he and his team accomplished as he is presented the CPRS Manitoba Communicator of the Year Award at a special luncheon event on Thursday, April 17, 2014 at the Hotel Fort Garry.

Jason’s accomplishments since joining the Downtown Biz in 2011 include leading the creation of the BIZ’s CEO Sleepout event/campaign and the successful negotiation with Canada Post in turning the BIZ’s Canada Day Living Flag photo-op into an official stamp. During his two-year tenure, Jason has grown the BIZ’s positive media hits from 86 in 2011 to 398 in 2013. Following his acceptance of the MCOY award at the luncheon, Jason will speak about these experiences.

Register for the MCOY plated lunch event before Monday, March 31 at 5:00 p.m. and receive our early bird discount at $40 for members, $60 for non-members, and $25 for students! Following this date and time, the MCOY regular fee will be in effect for $50 for members, $70 for non-members and $30 for students.

CPRS Manitoba celebrates excellence in public communications, and developed the MCOY award in 2008 to honour individuals and organizations that have effectively employed public relations strategies to achieve organizational goals. Every year, MCOY is selected by a panel of senior CPRS Manitoba members and public relations professionals.

Previous MCOY award recipients include Bill Peters of St-Boniface Hospital Research Centre (2013), Scott Brown of True North Sports and Entertainment (2012), Kevin Walters of Manitoba Homecoming (2011), Clare MacKay of The Forks North Portage Partnership (2010) and Heather Plett of the Canadian Foodgrains Bank (2009). Inaugural MCOY winners were Gail Asper and Kim Jasper for the Canadian Museum for Human Rights (2008).

This year’s recipient and all nominees demonstrated creativity and solid communications strategies. CPRS Manitoba is proud to be able to recognize the best in the profession.
