Sean Kelly APR, FCPRS will detail how Canadian offshore regulators dealt with intense public scrutiny following the BP blowout in the Gulf of Mexico. Sandra Thornton, BGS, APR, FCPRS will present methods to keep the inside onside and discuss the importance of internal communications when your organization is facing a crisis – real or potential.
Sean W. Kelly APR, FCPRS, has 25 years experience in Public Relations and currently heads the Public Relations Department at the Canada Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board. He also teaches public relations part-time at Memorial University. He is Vice President and Corporate Secretary of the national board of the Canadian Public Relations Society. Sean has received numerous awards, including the Don Rennie Memorial Award, the CPRS Lamp of Service and the Silver Award of Excellence for Issues Management/Crisis Communications. He was inducted into the CPRS College of Fellows in 2009 and has spoken at several national and international conferences, including the United Nations Conference on Environmental Educations and Communications.
Sandra Thornton APR, FCPRS, is an independent communications consultant and has more than 25 years of award winning experience with a variety of organizations. Most recently, she was Director of Corporate Communications for Stantec, with company-wide responsibility for corporate relations, media relations, community investment, investor relations communications, acquisition communications, internal communications, policy, and e-communications. Sandra continues her passion for public relations by teaching communication courses at the University of Victoria and MacEwan University. She is certified in crisis communications from the Institute for Crisis Management and holds ATM and CTM designations with Toastmasters International. In 2011, Sandra was honored with an appointment to the CPRS College of Fellows.
